Strong industry, financial and opportunity analysis skills are required. Other prerequisites include exceptional organizational skills with the ability to balance different projects and priorities simultaneously, as well as confidence, poise, and the ability to present Flywheel Ventures to entrepreneurs. One must also have a passion both for technology entrepreneurship and the industry of venture capital.
Candidates should have a “whatever it takes to get it done” mentality and positive attitude, seeking to be on a team with a shared vision and goals. In the world of venture-backed technology startups the risks are too expansive, rewards too great, and experiences too enjoyable for anything else to be acceptable.
Ideal candidates are former or currently practicing engineers or scientists with a minimum of two years of technology-company operational experience, preferably venture-backed. We look for industry experiences and academic backgrounds that match Flywheel’s areas of interest, characterized as clean technology, electronics, physical sciences and information technology. Applicants are typically between their first and second years of their MBA, in anticipation of starting or continuing a career in entrepreneurship and / or private equity.
Interested students should submit a resume and cover letter through the website (or through applicable universities or trade publications) by April 15 of each year. Enrollment is limited. Students who accept admission to the program become Flywheel Fellows, allowing the best and brightest to put their talents to work in the Southwest / Rockies by investing first institutional capital in promising ventures.
The new Flywheel Fellows class is announced in May and the Program begins in June.
