Flywheel pursues the structure and common practices of traditional venture capital management including:
Investment professionals with deep domain expertise, entrepreneurial experience, and operational track records who provide mentoring and strategy advice;
A maximum of 5 companies/boards per investment professional to assure management focus and value creation;
Investments with syndicates of several firms, thereby expanding networks of resources and relationships; increasing the depth and breadth of experience around the boardroom table; and providing a larger collective pool of follow-on capital for future financings;
A strategy of active participation in creating portfolio company value by matching market opportunities with appropriate innovations, talent and financing;
Investment professionals who act as pattern matchers, aggregators, and connectors to top-tier resources and relationships beyond the target region;
A focus on collaboration with entrepreneurs to nurture their skills along with their companies, and in particular, to mentor entrepreneurs based in technical disciplines; and
An understanding that investment returns are the drivers that enable all broader agendas to succeed, including the firm’s long-term market goals and the region’s economic vitality.
