David Lam Joins Microprobe's Board of Directors

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan., 31, 2011-MicroProbe, a leading supplier of wafer test technology to the global semiconductor industry, today welcomed Dr. David Lam to the Board of Directors of its parent company, Astria Semiconductor Holdings.  Best known for founding semiconductor capital equipment giant, Lam Research, Dr. Lam now heads a Silicon Valley-based investment and advisory firm for high-tech companies.  Lam rounds out a Board which also includes Trevor Loy of Flywheel Ventures, Gidu Shroff, formerly of Intel Corporation, David Millet of Gemini Investors, and MicroProbe CEO, Dr. Mike Slessor.

“David brings a unique combination of experience and creativity to MicroProbe,” said CEO, Dr. Mike Slessor.  “A skilled technologist and business leader, he has delivered some of the industry’s most innovative products to market, and built great businesses around those products.  His contribution will be invaluable as we continue on our growth trajectory.”

Lam said he was drawn to MicroProbe for its strong team and advanced System-on-Chip (SoC) probe card technology.  He noted, “As SoC devices become more complex, test vendors are being challenged daily to lower costs and bring higher value to customers’ test operations.  MicroProbe has remained consistently ahead of the curve, executing on a global strategy to provide products and support for the industry’s current and future test needs.  I’m delighted to join the team.”

A distinguished semiconductor industry veteran, Lam introduced the first fully automated plasma etching system for semiconductor manufacturing in 1981.  Under his guidance as CEO, the company in 1982 established a strong presence in Japan through a marketing partnership.  Lam Research went public in 1984 and remains a perennial leader in semiconductor process equipment.

Today, Lam uses his experience and expertise to provide guidance to emerging technology enterprises in sectors that include semiconductor and semiconductor equipment, micro- and nano-device manufacturing, computer hardware and software, medical devices, and energy infrastructure.  Among the companies he also serves as a Board member are Multibeam Corporation and Xradia Inc.
