Tred Displays Names New Chief Executive Officer
February 17, 2010, (Albuquerque, NM) - Tred Displays, a leader in reflective, bi-stable clean-tech displays, announced today that Nils Thorjussen has been named Chief Executive Officer. Thorjussen is a veteran display executive and co-founder of Element Labs, an award-winning global leader in LED technology.
Thorjussen has nineteen years of hands-on, technology, start-up experience. He previously founded and helped grow three companies: Element Labs, (a leader in LED display technology), Flying Pig Systems (lighting control systems), and Tradar (hedge fund portfolio management software). As the CEO and co-founder of Element Labs, Inc., Thorjussen led the company through a period of rapid growth from inception in 2003 through 2008. Element Labs is an award-winning leader in the application of LED display technology, with many high profile architectural and entertainment clients including Madonna, Coldplay, American Idol, and the Grammy Awards. Nils holds an M.B.A. from Stanford University and graduated with highest honors from the University of Texas at Austin (B.A. and a B.B.A.).
At Element Labs Thorjussen focused the business on products leveraging the inherent power efficient properties of light emitting diodes (LEDs) used in traditional large format digital signage. However, when used together in large quantities, LEDs consume much power and their brightness can sometimes turn them into an eyesore.
“During my work at Element Labs I realized that LED display technology was only an interim step in the evolution of digital signage, and Tred Displays has the technology to replace it,” Thorjussen said. “Tred’s unique, patent-pending technology utilizing magnetic fibers has the potential to completely upend the large format display industry because it uses virtually no power, reflects and does not emit light, and cost significantly less than LED displays.”
Tred Displays received its first round of investment in March 2008 led by Flywheel Ventures.
“Nils brings the perfect entrepreneurial and industry skills to drive the next phase in Tred’s growth,” said Kim Sanchez Rael, General Partner at Flywheel Ventures. “With Nils’ leadership, Tred is poised to redefine huge segments of the multi-billion dollar large-area display market.”
